And then there were 12. Voices, that is

NBC's The Voice whittled down its final group of contenders to 12 from 20 Monday night in Season 11's first live show

And on the eve of Election Day, The Voice used real-time voting to let  viewers pick their favorites via Twitter and the Voice app as the episode was airing. Two fan favorites were chosen by popular votes for teams coached by Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton. Each coach then chose a third artist from their team

Losers

The coaches (or at least most of them). No doubt about it: The job is terrible at this point in the show. The order of eliminations: Team Alicia, Team Blake, Team Miley and Team Adam. Veteran coach Shelton summed up what all of the coaches seemed to be expressing: "This is happening too fast. I can't wrap my head around this thing. ... This literally sucks so much

More losers

The fans. The introduction of real-time voting confused many fans, who expressed their disappointment on social media. It wasn't made  clear at the top of the show how things were going to work, but eventually became apparent that voting would only take place as each team competed. In other words, fans could only vote for members of Team Alicia during that group's performances, and only in Eastern and Central time zones

Winners

Coach Miley Cyrus. As bittersweet as the evening was, she clearly had fun cheering on contestants, standing up to applaud performances and bopping around to the music. And her colorful ensemble, with Team Miley eyeglasses, was sheer joy
